‘I tried to make myself dangerous’ – White delighted to lead Whitecaps’ comeback

Brian White says he "tried to make himself dangerous" after a slow Vancouver Whitecaps start and helped them earn a 2-2 draw with Los Angeles FC in MLS on Sunday.

Vancouver are enjoying their best-ever start to an MLS campaign, but the current Supporters' Shield leaders found themselves 2-0 down within 20 minutes.

Mark Delgado gave LAFC the lead just eight minutes in, profiting from a long throw to slot a low finish past Yohei Takaoka.

Just 11 minutes later, Ryan Hollinghead won a penalty after drawing a foul from Edier Ocampo, and Denis Bouanga coolly slotted in.

However, White got his first of the game by heading home Sebastian Berhalter's free-kick in the 26th minute, and he got the equaliser as well, steering another header past Hugo Lloris 70 minutes in to share the points.

White has now netted eight goals in nine league matches this season, scoring all of those at BC Place.

"I just tried to make myself dangerous in the box, stay alive on the second ball from Ali [Ahmed]," White told MLS Season Pass post-game.

"I was quite happy to get my head on it and help the team at least get a point."

White is currently tied for the Golden Boot with Chicho Arango (San Jose Earthquakes), Tai Baribo (Philadelphia Union) and Hugo Cuypers (Chicago Fire).

He made his return from a minor hamstring injury on Sunday, with head coach Jesper Sorensen hailing his impact.

"Brian is a player where when you have him on the pitch, you have the feeling he can always score," Sorensen said.

"It's a great feeling to have, and he's been great for us all year long, also in the games where he hasn't scored.

"I think he's found a very good balance of all the time helping the team and all the time being in positions in the box where we also want him to be when we're attacking."

As for LAFC, they are now unbeaten in five as they continue their turnaround following a slow start.

Steve Cherundolo's side had 13 attempts against Vancouver, creating 2.1 expected goals (xG), compared to their opponents' 0.8 xG.

But the head coach remained positive despite his team giving up a strong lead, believing only a few small changes are needed to hit their next level.

"This [draw] just confirms our momentum," he said. "It confirms our pathway as a group right now and how we're doing things.

"[There is] a lot of good. We're just a few, very small details away from being very good.

"We'll keep trying to improve and keep things going. We still have work to do."
